Spring Season Update from BBRBS

Hi BBRBS Families,

We just held a board meeting after finding out that kids will not be returning to school this spring and that the Bedford fields will be closed until at least June 29th. Regretfully, we have cancelled the 2020 Spring Baseball and Softball season.

All families registered for our spring baseball and softball programs will receive a full refund. Since we must issue refunds for nearly 400 players, individually, we expect the refund process to take at least two weeks to complete. We will follow-up with an email to everyone once all refunds have been made. Please bear with us and hold off on inquiries about refunds until after you receive our email notification.

Our Bedford BBRBS board remains committed to offering an adapted baseball and softball program this year. Our first priority is ensuring that it is safe for our kids to play ball, so we are closely following the guidance of state and local officials as well as our national Babe Ruth organization. Our second priority is finding a way to maximize participation at all levels, so that kids from grade school through high school who have been cooped up inside for months have a chance to exercise and have fun with their friends.

If we find we can provide a program, we will make an announcement and open registration. The situation remains fluid, however we are considering several options including, but not limited to:

  • Holding a modified summer in-town season in July and August.

  • Holding a modified fall in-town season in August and September.

  • Holding a traditional summer travel season for as many players as we can accommodate, depending in part on decisions of other towns and leagues in which we participate (Middle Essex, BayState and Middlesex).

  • Holding informal summer pick-up games/clinics for our various age groups.

We plan on reaching out to everyone through a poll in the next week to gauge interest in participation this year. As parents, your thoughts and opinions are critical in helping us consider different options. Please look for a survey from me soon, and meanwhile please also feel free to reach out to me regarding ideas or concerns you may have!

Thank You and Please Stay Safe and Play Catch!
