2010 Spring Season Welcome
We are ready for another exciting year of baseball and softball. Each year the board takes action based on your comments to improve and over the past few years we have added a league, improved our drafting process, increased our summer program and added a fall program. The players have benefited from all of these changes both in enjoying the program but also just an increased opportunity to play. We look forward to 2010. For 2010 we are having registration earlier. Now that it is on-line we can easily have move it up which will allow us to plan the number of teams, schedule and order equipment with greater confidence. There will be no changes to the spring rates. Please register on time so we can execute our plans. As always we will be looking for volunteer coaches and managers. We often hear about time and coaching knowledge concerns. On the knowledge concern we will have a clinic and we are always available to help on the field – that is what we enjoy the most.  For the time it is difficult but the managers and coaches are a team and if someone is late the others will pick it up – it has worked this way for years. This week I was talking to someone who I coached with about 10 years ago and he was saying the camaraderie and the friends made it the best time they had while the children were growing up. I have heard this story many times – it is a great opportunity – just do it. You can register players, umpires, find the CORI form or volunteer at http://www.bedfordbaseballsoftball.com/

T-Ball provides a fun introduction to baseball for kindergarten boys and girls.  Players hit off a tee.  We use a safety ball that is softer than a regular baseball but is about the same weight and size as a regular baseball. Normal game days are Monday and Wednesday. Players arrive between 5:15 and 5:30 and stay typically until about 7:00. Cost is $110 per player.
Rookie softball is a step up from T-Ball where players learn to hit with their own coaches pitching to them.  They continue to learn correct fielding and throwing technique as well as learning to hit a pitched softball.  This is done in a fun atmosphere with a focus on learning to love the game! Normal game days are Tuesday and Thursday. Cost is $110 per player
Farm baseball is a step up from T-Ball where players learn to hit with their own coaches pitching to them.  They continue to learn correct fielding and throwing technique as well as learning to hit a pitched ball.  This is done in a fun atmosphere with a focus on learning to love the game! Normal game days are Tuesday and Thursday. Cost is $110 per player
Junior softball is the next step up in softball.  Beginning at this level players rather than coaches will be pitching to their opponents.  They continue to develop their fielding, throwing, and hitting technique as well as learning to correctly play specific game situations.  Scores and standings are kept with a playoff at the end of the season to determine the league champion.  Teams are formed by a draft following a player tryout.  All registered players are placed on a team. Normal game days are Tuesday and Thursday with one weekend practice. Cost is $150 per player
National league baseball is the next step up in baseball.  Beginning at this level players rather than coaches will be pitching to their opponents.  They continue to develop their fielding, throwing, and hitting technique as well as learning to correctly play specific game situations.  Scores and standings are kept with a playoff at the end of the season to determine the league championship.  Teams are formed by a draft following a player tryout.  All registered players are placed on a team. Intermediate softball is the next step up in softball.  They continue to develop their fielding, throwing, hitting, and pitching technique as well as learning to correctly play specific game situations.  Scores and standings are kept with a playoff at the end of the season to determine the league championship. Normal game days are Tuesday and Thursday with one weekend practice. Cost is $150 per player
American and Atlantic leagues Baseball players aged 11 and 12 attend a combined tryout for the American and Atlantic leagues.  Players not selected into the American league play in the Atlantic league.  Scores and standings are kept with a playoff at the end of the season to determine the league champion. Normal game days are Monday and Wednesday with one weekend practice. Cost is $150 per player
Senior softball teams play in a league with teams from nearby towns.  Scores and standings are kept with a playoff at the end of the season to determine the league champion.  High school players are not allowed to pitch in this league. Normal game days are Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $150 per player
Babe Ruth Bedford teams play in the Minuteman League along with teams from Winchester and Belmont.  Scores and standings are kept with a playoff at the end of the season to determine the league champion. Most (sometimes all) 13 year old players play in a separate Babe Ruth Prep division designed for players who are playing their first spring season on the full size 90 ft. baseball diamond.  All 14 and 15 year old players play in a separate division.  Normal game days are Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $150 per player
